Kirtan Fest 2024 The Power of Words in Community

This third annual Kirtan Fest offers a festive celebration of local talent and the love of life they portray through their art. Join us in a collaboration of community around the power of meditation through music, dance and the spoken word. We also welcome back Sarvatma a wonderfully talented,  internationally respected kirtanneer, who has recently returned from a European tour and takes the place of Braja Sakhi who due to personal circumstances, has had to withdraw from the festival. Music, including Jenn and Matt, (from Arrow and Anchor, presenting yoga with live music, drums and chanting with feel good dance mixed in), Brayd, a talented local musican, and Bernard Ballard a local resopected and published modern poet. Along with vendors, food and the beautiful picturesque setting of the historical Boal Mansion, what a great way to end Summer.

About Kirtan: 

Kirtan orgininating in India, is an ancient call-and-response form of chanting which has been reinvented  by modern devotional artists who are blending traditional kirtan with  modern music genres such as rock, R&B, hip hop, and  electronica—breathing new life (and new devotion) into yoga’s sacred  chants. 

Kirtan, is yoga through sound. Mantra (Man= mind, tra=to free) meditation, frees the mind from anxiety and according to David Newman, "helps to guide your awareness to a place that is quiet and still,” Being in the midst of kirtan, is the safest place in the universe as all worries melt away and the joining of hearts erases all selfish concerns.
